As the evenings draw in , join us on Wednesday 2nd October at Bello Bar, where Kaleidoscope Night will be presenting a typically diverse programme from Ireland’s most talented musicians and composers. This month we will delve in to a world of contemporary and experimental works from Gareth Sholdice and Nathan Sherman, we will pay homage to Saint Bridgid from composer and performer Sive, who will present a song cycle for 3 voices with vocalists; Sive O’Sullivan, Sharon Murphy and Clara Rose and The Phoenix Bassoon Quartet will make their first appearance on our stage, made up of the Ireland’s leading bassoonists. The Phoenix will be presenting music from English composers Alan Ridout, a divertimento by Allan Stephenson and more!

Musicians:

BY A SKY - Nathan Sherman (viola, perc) & Garrett Sholdice (synth)

In Cloak & Womb by Sive with Clara Rose (voice) & Sharon Murphy (voice)

The Phoenix Bassoon Quartet- Sinead Frost, Greg Crowley, John Leonard and Hilary Sheil.

Info:

BY A SKY is a new performance project centred around a core duo of Nathan Sherman (amplified viola, electronics, percussion) and Garrett Sholdice (keyboard, electronics). Sherman and Sholdice draw on their backgrounds in classical and contemporary classical music and their shared enthusiasm for drone metal and immersive, highly focussed sonic experiences. Their original material is characterised by extremes of dynamic: the delicate and intimate co-existing with the violent and abrasive. Spacious and cathartic, these soundscapes are sometimes haunted by the ghosts of older music (Bach, Ravel, Catalan folk lullabies...).

In Cloak & Womb  is a song cycle for three female voices composed by Sadhbh O'Sullivan (Sive). Taking inspiration from the legacy of Brigid the saint, the goddess and the woman, the songs explore how her echo might resonate in the world today, particularly in relation to themes of climate change and social justice.
