Kaleidoscope Night

Music For Curious Ears
Bello Bar
Doors 8pm Music at 8.30pm

Since its inception, Kaleidoscope Night has curated a space where the "unexpected" is the only constant and this month’s offering is no different blending rediscovered Irish Romanticism with global traditions and modern innovation.

A Program of Rediscovery and Global Resonance

The evening is anchored by a landmark cultural moment: the world premiere of Irish Romantic composer Mary Dickenson-Auner’s String Quartet No. 3, op. 23 "Londonderry Air". This performance offers a rare opportunity to hear a masterwork of Irish heritage that has long remained in the shadows.

In a striking contrast, Kaleidoscope Night is delighted to welcome the NCH Gamelan Gadhon for the very first time. This provides an intimate, up-close experience of Javanese traditional music, inviting the audience to immerse themselves in the hypnotic, metallic resonance of the Gamelan.

Celebrating 100 years since the release of F.W Murnau’s silent film masterpiece Faust, the Kaleidoscope Night audience will be treated to a sneak preview of an extract of the brand new score from Unshaped Form – Lioba Petrie (cello and vocals), Cameron Doyle (guitar) with special guests: Kaleidoscope  artist in residence Sam Perkin (keys) and Aisling Ennis (harp) with the acclaimed singer Iarla Ó’Lionáird. The film and new score will be presented in full at Phizzfest on 9th May with the generous support of the Goethe institute.

String Duo Erin Hennessey (violin) & Yseult Cooper Stockdale (cello) will present Scottish folk tunes interspersed with Bach inventions.

A brand new harp arrangement of “Mandala” by Irish composer Jonathan Nangle will be performed by Aisling Ennis.

Musicians :

Erin Hennessey (violin), Jamie Campbell (violin), Alex Koustas (viola), Yseult Cooper Stockdale (cello), Aisling Ennis (harp), Iarla Ó’Lionáird (voice), Sam Perkin (piano), Lioba Petrie (cello), Cameron Doyle (guitar), NCH Gamelan Gadhon - Dir. Peter Moran.

Evening Highlights

  • World Premiere: Mary Dickenson-Auner’s String Quartet No. 3, op. 23.

  • Cultural Immersion: Javanese traditional music performed by the NCH Gamelan Gadhon.

  • Cinematic Preview: An exclusive sneak preview of a new live film score featuring very special guests.

  • Modern Meets Traditional: A new arrangement of "Mandala" for Harp and effects by Irish composer Jonathan Nangle, alongside traditional tunes from Erin Hennessy and Yseult Cooper Stockdale.

"Kaleidoscope Night is about more than just music; it’s about the friction and beauty that happen when you put different sounds in the same room," says Lioba Petrie , Artistic Director. "
